So you want to know- what the hell is this Rocker Kpop nonsense about anyway? The blog’s about kpop, rock music, and where they intersect. That means artists themselves, references in music videos, songs with alternative influence, pop culture cross-overs, and anything in between. In addition, there will be posts about kpop in general.

This blog is of the philosophy that sharing is caring. If a single one of my posts inspires someone to give something new a listen, my work here will be done. It could be an old metalhead seeing Gaon in a Rush shirt and thinking, “wow, the kids these days have some good taste!” deciding to give Xdinary Heroes a try. Or maybe it could be a Hyunjin stan seeing him in a Slipknot shirt and thinking they want to be hip. Whatever it is, I’m here to be a bridge, a guide, a stepping stone on your journey to musical diversification.

Any gatekeepy nonsense is going to be ignored here. I am the musical-credibility equivalent of a nepo-baby, the daughter of the former owner of a hardcore record label. I don’t believe in any sort of elitist nonsense about who can be a true fan of this or that. There’s no correct way to be a fan of these bands or enjoy music. I’m here to spread the art and love.

Here’s a pretty heavy disclaimer! I am not a music expert or critic by any means. In fact, I’ve heard very few songs in my life that I dislike. If it follows a pattern and repeats, odds are I will like it. I grew up on punk music- my love of and experience with music was fundamentally built without a shit given about melody, production, or whatever else. My dad played demo rips for me as a baby. If you are looking for a blog that will tell you which rock-influenced kpop songs are good and worth your time… well, take my opinion with a grain of salt.

This is a personal project where I can shout into the void about this niche topic. Kpop is a hobby to brighten up my days. In reality, I spend most of my time doing the work over on my main blog, which is much heavier. My name is kickabel, and I am an artist who does political anti-ableist work. Sometimes between ranting about disability justice and researching the horrors of history I need a break to watch some pretty boys dance. Besides that, the job I do that actually gets me money is caretaking!
