Welcome to the grand opening of Rocker Kpop, a blog about the overlap between- you guessed it!- rock and kpop. Here you will find plenty posts about the Kpop world that can’t really be written anywhere else. I’m sure I am not the only daughter of an 80s punk who ended up into kpop by some strange twist of fate- but I think I’m the only one with this much time on my hands. Because of my background knowledge in music, I have found myself noticing references time and time again to my own fascination, only to have no one around me to find any shred of my observations comprehensible.

When you think of rocker kpop you’re probably thinking along the lines of Dreamcatcher, which is totally fair. However, this blog is not just about groups that play with genre and such. This blog is about any and all ways these two worlds can intersect. And also, it’s about my thoughts on the kpop sphere (for better or worse).

As the writer of a blog like this, I have to have some sort of investment in kpop. To sum it up, I got into kpop as a little girl back in 2009 with the release of Gee. I’m fairly old in kpop years for the average western fan and thus have truly seen darkness. I was there on the front lines, patting my friend’s back while she cried over Luhan leaving Exo back in the eighth grade. As only a girl group fan at the time, I was just glad I never biased Jessica.

I’ve been watching the whole kpop phenomenon since I was 8. I’m 22 now. That’s 14 years! As far as fandom goes, you can’t really get too much more dedicated than that. Kpop went from a guilty pleasure that I hid from everyone to something people associate with me. It took a few years there to realize I’m not above it or betraying my punk heritage by enjoying it. However, now that I have learned that lesson, I want to use my unique crossover knowledge to hopefully be a bridge between these two worlds.

If you’re looking for a mission statement for this blog… first of all, you take this shit seriously and I appreciate that. But second, here it is: Rocker Kpop aims to introduce kpop fans to alternative music through their favorite artists. Posts will include plenty of information and point you in different directions for new things to check out which you may not be familiar with.

Thank you for giving this post a read, and please enjoy this blog!
